Multiboard – Multiboard Internal and External Wall Panels [BLP]

Overview:

Lightweight, versatile wall panels made using approximately 50% recycled content. Suitable for various internal and external construction applications, in residential and commercial use.

Product Description:

Multiboard panels are versatile, fibreglass reinforced wall lining boards. The panels are made from recycled wood fibre (approximately 50% by weight) from post-industrial recycled wood powder waste, and magnesium cement (approximately 25-30%). Panels have low formaldehyde and VOC emissions.

Multiboard is suitable for various applications, including cladding for new or existing homes, extensions, upper storey additions, eave linings, fire/party walls, wet area linings and acoustic walls/partitions. The raw panel should be finished using recommended coating systems (see Preparation).

The products come in a range of thicknesses and dimensions, are significantly lighter (approximately 30%) than various fibre cement products used for similar applications, and can be cut and shaped using standard tools. This allows easy installation and significant savings in transport energy and labour costs.

Product has been tested and meets relevant moisture, strength and fire resistance requirements. Contains no asbestos or cyrstalline silica.

Multiboard panels also have significant acoustic properties. Installed in a standard layer system (1 x 15mm panel of Multiboard on either side of a double stud steel frame), Multiboard is capable of achieving acoustic values of Rw + ctr 50 or greater.

Ecospecifier Issues of Concern / Red Lights

Minor Issue: Timber Certification-

Timber used has not been FSC Chain of Custody certified. Various timber certification schemes are currently in operation in regards to the sustainable and responsible management of forests as sources of wood. According to ecospecifier, an analysis of the various timber certification schemes reveals that the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC, Chain of Custody) is the most rigorous and robust certification, due to the stringent criteria followed. FSC is the only scheme based on a clear set of minimum performance based criteria, prohibits the conversion of forests to plantations, and also prohibits the use of GMO trees and toxic baiting. See Timber Technical Guide for further information.
